Top Youth Tennis Talent Converges on Racquet Center

While the top professionals were in England gunning for the Wimbledon title during the first couple weeks of July, many of their younger counterparts flocked to the Boca Raton Swim and Racquet Center for one of the most prestigious junior tennis tournaments.

“It's a great facility,” Irvine, Calif., native Siddharth Bharadwaha said of the Racquet Center following a mid-morning victory. “The courts are really nice. Everything's really well maintained. It's a pleasure to play here.”

More than 500 junior players from around the nation entered the USTA's National Clay Court Championship during the second weekend  of July.

The Boca Raton Racquet Center was one of four Palm Beach County facilities serving as host sites for the tournament.

Many current American professionals, including Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul, competed in this tournament as youths.

Why did the USTA choose the Boca Raton Racquet Center as a host site?

“Their courts are great,” Site Director Charlotte Cramer said. “They just redid them a few years ago, and they have lots of them. And they have lights as well, so we can play into the night.”

Cramer said that the Racquet Center offers the USTA as many as 20 courts at time for tournament play. Early in the week all of those courts were in use. She also praised the facility's shaded areas, pro shop and locker room accommodations.

Racquet Center supervisor Eric Quinones enjoys seeing the courts packed with prime young talent.

“It's great exposure,” Quinones said. “We get to see the place full. Seeing all these kids with the passion that they have for tennis and just for the growth of the sport, it's good to see.”
