Lab Blends Science And Crafts

The Lab program at Sugar Sand Park's community center erupted on a mid-March Sunday morning.

Sort of.

Children in attendance learned about how and why the earth creates volcanoes, then made one of their own.

The Lab is a monthly STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) program that teaches children various aspects of science through hands-on activities and innovative projects.

After learning about how volcanoes work, attendees assembled their own laser engraved shadow box lit to resemble an erupting volcano.

Every month The Lab explores different topics that spark creativity, curiosity, critical thinking, and problem solving.

On Sunday, April 19 The Lab will delve into “3D Printed Pollinators.” Sunday, May 17 brings the “Design Challenge Circuit Building” Lab.

The Lab programs are designed for children ages 5-12. Those who want to register for one or all of the upcoming Labs can do so here.

The cost for District residents is $12. Non-resident fee is $15. Lab programs begin at 11 a.m. and run for an hour. A parent or guardian must accompany the child.
